Movies Under the Stars Question & Answer

What is it? 

We are a committee of dedicated volunteers and community organizations committed to bringing back movies in the park by purchasing a professional grade sound, screen and film projection equipment.  It will be a free 8-week Friday night movie series beginning the summer of 2012.

Where will it be?

Locations are still being scouted, but the idea is to move the movie series around the city to showcase the outstanding public parks and public spaces we have in the City of Kingston.  As we get closer to our kickoff, look for storefront posters or visit our blog at www.Kingstonparksmovies.wordpress.com to follow all of our activities.

Who is leading this?

This is a project of the Friends of Kingston Parks and Recreation, a relatively new 501(c)3 established to raise much needed revenue to support our Recreation Department.  Our fiduciary agent is the Kingston Land Trust and we are also joined by Kingston Cares, and many wonderful community volunteers.

How is it going to work?

The objective is to raise approximately $17,000 to purchase the equipment and the copyrights for 8 movies so that we can legally have public showings of movies.  Once the equipment is purchased it will be donated to the City’s Parks and Rec. Department, where it can be continued to be used by community partners and the city for a number of great community building events.

How can I help?

We are raising money in a number of ways including bake sales, a raffle, a concert, a bowling night, and sponsorships.  We see this project as more than raising money for some equipment, but also inspiring our community to invest in our future.  Even our promotional logo is being designed by students at our area schools.  Please consider a generous donation to move us closer to our goal.  Checks can be made out to the Kingston Land Trust, and mailed to the above address.  To find out more contact Jen Fuentes at 845.332.6600 or visit our blog at Kingstonparksmovies.wordpress.com to find out about our next “funraiser” and join the action.
