Grease is the Word: July 27 Forsyth Park

Friday Night- Grease is the Word

This week, dust off your loafers and poodle skirts because we are hosting Grease beginning at 8:30 at Forsyth Park and Nature Center.  All those who come in costume will be invited up to the big screen for a pre-movie fashion show after we hear the sweet songs of the St. Marks AME Church youth chorus beginning at 7:30pm.  If you drive, parking is available at Deitz Stadium, but the Citibus Trolly will also be making stops across the city.  Grab a blanket or a lawn chair – and we’ll see YOU at the movies!  Check back on the website for rain cancellation information if it is raining – all movies moved to Andy Murphy Midtown Recreation Center, 467 Broadway.

It was a slow night for the Goonies with the rain, but a great time was still had by all.  The Percussion Orchestra of Kingston – POOK- did a fabulous job providing some pre-movie entertainment.  We are also extremely grateful for several new supporters of the project who have made it possible to continue to provide refreshments free of charge each week:

Ulster County Glass & Mirror

Rondout Plate & Glass

Cindy and John Reinhardt

The Junior League of Kingston

Ulster County Deputy Sheriffs PBA

With their generous support, in collaboration with Queens Galley/Cooking Matters and the Salvation Army, we have had popcorn and hotdogs each week for the hundreds of guests at each movie.  Binnewater also provides ice cold water for all to enjoy.  All of this amazing generosity is a wonderful reflection of the community spirit Kingston Parks Movies Under the Stars is proud to inspire.

The Goonies: The Show Must Go On!!

The Show Must Go On!

Due to rain, we will be moving the showing of the Goonies to the Andy Murphy Neighborhood Center located at 467 Broadway.  Pre-movie entertainment starting at 7:30 with the movie to follow at 8:30.  Come on down!!

Transportation is available through Citibus, or parking available on-street or at the Municipal lot next to Monkey Joe’s.  For more information please call 845.332.6600.

The Goonies: July 20th at Cornell Park

The Movies Under the Stars Committee is pleased to present The Goonies, this Friday at Cornell Park this Friday with an opening performance by the Center for Creative Education’s POOK – Percussion Orchestra of Kingston – beginning at 7:30 with the movie to follow at 8:30.  Just like the lost treasure of the film, Cornell Park is the hidden treasure of our City parks system.  Located below the rise of the veteran’s monument on Wurts Street, you will find a natural amphitheater created by the sloping hills of the park; perfect for watching an outdoor movie!

If you come consider grabbing the free Citibus Trolly because parking will be at a premium- click the link above for the full schedule of stops.  Grab a lawn chair or blanket and pack a picnic or grab some take-out at one of the many fine restaurants along the way and come early to grab the best seats.  Also consider bringing a flashlight to guide your way out of the park.  We have been graciously offered the use of the lots for parking next to St. Marks AME and the Redeemer Lutheran Church both on Wurts and are working on more.  Walking or the bus are your best bets this week.  Free popcorn is being provided every week by Queens Galley/Cooking Matters and our friends at Binnewater are providing free ice cold bottled water for your enjoyment.  The Salvation Army has also been dishing up free hot dogs for the kids with the support of generous community donations.

Commemorative Kingston Parks Movies Under the Stars T-shirts are also available for   $10.   Please support this fun community project by buying a shirt or helping with a donation in our free-will offering jar.  We have sizes for youth all the way to Adult 2x.  All proceeds from T-shirt sales go right back into the program.

Our grateful thanks go to our fabulous sponsors and volunteers – Every week more than a dozen people give up their weekend to lug around heavy screens and sound equipment, pass out popcorn, and direct traffic.  The smiles and excited clapping at the highpoint of each film and program make it all worthwhile.  This project is a great reflection of the Kingston community spirit.  Thank you everybody for making this possible!

We’ll See YOU at the Movies!!

E.T. Coming to Kingston Point Beach Saturday July 14

Another fantastic night was had by all for last Friday’s showing of the Wizard of Oz.  Many thanks to our friends from the Kingston Land Trust for arranging for some fun pre-movie yoga stretching.  Free hot dogs and snacks were made available from the good people at the Salvation Army and of course every week Queens Galley/Cooking Matters provides popcorn and Binnewater cools you down with ice cold spring water – all free of charge.

This Saturday night – a special night to accommodate the Children’s Day Parade on Friday night – grab a picnic basket and beach blanket and meet us at Kingston Point Beach for E.T the Extra Terrestrial.  Come early for some karate moves by Master Keith Bennett and his star students at 7:30.  Please bring a chair or blanket so you can be comfortable for the movie and remember that the beach, just like our great parks are smoke-free environments.

Parking will be available at the beach, the lot across the way and on-street, but save the hassle and take the Citibus Trolly.  Call Citibus at 331-3725 or click the tab above for “Transportation/Logistics.”  Joining our Movies Under the Stars committee this week will be a professional sound technician to ensure that you are getting an awesome outdoor movie experience.

We’ll see YOU at the movies!!
