Kingston Parks Movies Under the Stars is suspending all planning for the 2014 season due to a lack of communication/participation by the City of Kingston. We hope to resolve this issue in time to present another season of movies in the parks.
That’s terrible. If you need help getting the city to participate please let us supportive community member know!
I know go figure – its was so nice with all the volunteers the past 2 years and now the mayor takes over and it gets suspended- things that make ya go HMMMMMMM
We are all let down, but are proud of what we were able to accomplish. The new program is being promoted through the City’s parks and rec page.
The Movies in the Parks program has been very successful in the past two years. It’s so good to see people of all ages gather in the parks to enjoy great movies and each other’s company. The ‘Wizard of Oz’ showing in 2012 was delightful, with most people singing along with all the songs, and many reciting the dialogue. There aren’t many places where you can see ‘Casablanca’ on the big screen these days. There’s something for everyone, and each neighborhood has a chance to have a mini-block-party. Get on the ball, Kingston, and start talks for a third fine season. I can already think of a few titles for consideration: the ‘A-Team’ movie, the 2005 version of ‘Once Upon a Mattress’, and the 1939 ‘Adventures of Robin Hood’. How about it, Kingston?
The City of Kingston has indicated they are moving forward without the Movies Under the Stars Committee that founded the project. It is our understanding that no funds have been allocated. It seems they are seeking a new crew of volunteers and have seized all of the equipment as their own. We are let down but wish them the best in what we know is a huge undertaking because it really was a fabulous way to bring our community together and have some FUN!!
I’m curious what’s happening with this now? And also what exactly is behind the statement” seized the eequipment as their own”???
The movies project has now been taken over by the city. With no communication or returned calls they claim our volunteer committee has gone in a different direction and are seeking a new group of volunteers. As we never had a donation agreement or written terms, they believe all assets of our project belong to the city. There was a formal statement posted on our FB group and a guest editorial to Kingston Times that provides a bit more detail. You can find the page by searching Kingston Parks Movies Under the Stars on Facebook. It was actually a reporter that broke the news that our services would no longer be needed. So who knows…
